Christine Kydd and Gillian Frame

Ukrainian Community Centre, 14 Royal Terrace, Edinburgh EH7 5AB

Christine Kydd is one of Scotland's foremost and best-loved traditional singers. From an extended family of singers and musicians in the west, she began playing folk music with friends as a child and always delighted to return to Edinburgh where she lived for many years, surrounded by contemporaries such as Jock Tamsons Bairns, The Easy Club, Poozies.

Christine has graced the stage with many top musicians, including the creators of Shooglenifty. Her career has included touring and recording with Chantan, Calluna, Sinsheen and with Janet Russell.

Christines solo work has led to her twice being nominated as Scots Singer of the Year and she entered Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame in 2018. A third solo recording, Shift & Change, on Greentrax in 2019 has met with excellent critical acclaim, including a 4-Star review in The Scotsman and has led to an album-on-stage gig at Celtic Connections Festival next year (Feb 1 at The Drygate).

Influenced by so many contemporary writers, traditionalists, including the great Traveller singers, Christine sings both unaccompanied and with guitar (piano when available), and has recently been invited to various festivals as a tradition bearer.

"A glorious singer and great fun" (Alan Murray, Penicuik FC). "A singer of grace and generosity, and a commanding soloist " (Karine Polwart). "Christines ground-breaking recordings of Scots songs and harmony singing, whether in duos, trios or as a solo artist, stand out as favourites in my collection. As a performer, her warm inviting vocals and passion for the material draw even the uninitiated into discovering the riches of Scots song" (Fiona Ritchie, Producer/Host, USA NPRs The Thistle & Shamrock).

Gillian Frame is a professional Scottish fiddle player and educator based in Glasgow and has worked with many acts. She was a founding member of the band Back of the Moon back in the late 1990s with whom she toured for seven years, seeing them win various accolades including Best Up and Coming Act and then Best Folk Band at the Scots Trad Music Awards. During this time she also graduated with a BA (Hons) in Scottish Music from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and was the MG BBC Alba Young Scottish Traditional Musician of the Year in 2001.

Work as a session musician has led to being on albums with acts including The Unusual Supsects, Breabach, Treacherous Orchestra, Rachel Sermani, Deaf Shepherd, Mairearad and Anna and Duncan Lyalls Infinite Reflections. Gillian's list of other freelance work is extensive including working for the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Celtic Connections, Fèis Rois, Aberdeen Interntional Youth Festival and most traditional music organisations in Scotland and numerous music camps and festivals throughout North America and Europe including Vancouver, Philadelphia, Calgary, and Lorient .
